Which PlayStation Plus plan do you need?

Sony’s membership comparison places the Game Catalog in Extra and Premium. Essential has a different set of benefits, including Monthly Games, and does not include the Game Catalog. Premium adds benefits such as the Classics Catalog and game trials.

Check your plan before treating a catalog announcement as something already included in your account. A membership upgrade is a recurring subscription decision, so compare the games you actually want to play with your available time and the current terms.

A useful first step is to choose one game you would start this week and one you would realistically finish later. That makes the decision about your playing habits rather than the length of a promotional list. Use the store page to confirm the edition, supported console and access conditions.

What to play first: our take

Start with the kind of evening you want. A focused story, a large world and a co-op session compete for attention in different ways. Trying to begin all three at once can make a strong catalog feel like unfinished homework.

If friends are the deciding factor, arrange a short session before downloading several multiplayer options. Our two-player game guide explains the difference between sharing a device and joining online, a useful distinction whenever a group is choosing what to play.

For the park-building side of this month’s selection, our Planet Coaster introduction offers a related look at management and creative play. It covers a separate game, but can help you decide whether that style of challenge appeals to you.

Give yourself a stopping rule as well: one mission, one level or a planned amount of time. A subscription provides choices; you still get to decide which choice deserves a place in your routine.

Plan your week across PC and console

The busiest release week is easier to manage with a short list. Compare these additions with Steam Next Fest’s October 19 opening if you also play on PC. Our separate report on PEAK coming to PS5 covers another option for an organized co-op group.

For a quick game between longer downloads, browse Crazy Games Arcade. Keep the browser arcade and subscription catalog as separate ways to play, and choose the one that fits the session you have available.

PlayStation Plus questions

Does Essential include this Game Catalog lineup?

No. The Game Catalog is an Extra and Premium benefit. Essential’s Monthly Games are a separate offering.

Should I check the local store before downloading?

Yes. Verify the supported console, release timing and membership requirement on the listing shown in your region. That is also the best place to check any edition-specific details before making a subscription decision.
